Rather than using trainers and staff to help women in the communities where we work gain skills, we begin our community engagement by developing a bespoke engagement program for each community led by the members themselves. This program highlights the production skills that members already have and helps members develop them further. This builds the self-confidence of our members. Developing the self-confidence of our members is essential for helping them gain additional skills. The self-confidence and skills then enable them to create for themselves a sustainable pathway out of poverty.
This process takes anywhere from a few months to years. This process also helps strengthen their community ties and contributes to the emergence of a cohesive and supportive community.
